Q: Can a good admission essay turn a "no" into a "yes"?
A: Probably not. But it might just turn a "maybe" into a "yes." The best advice I can give students applying to college is, don't try to impress us. We want to hear about you, the real you. If you want to learn more, read the essay I recently published in the New York Times blog, "The Choice: Demystifying College Admissions and Aid." While you're at it, go to our Web site and check out the essays that worked.
— Martha Merrill '84, dean of admission and financial aid
