"I interned abroad in Cusco, Peru, doing a fair bit of fieldwork on Andean culture. Much of my work was on oral history focused on traditional dances and their meanings, which was part of a larger report designed to promote Andean culture."

"I'm most interested in studying Arabic and French in the Middle East, which is why I'm an international relations major. It lets me think about the world and put the languages in a context. I'm hopefully going to go abroad to Egypt or Syria next year."

How has your college work affected your career?
I studied abroad in Dakar, Senegal, where I was able to conduct an independent research project on Senegalese hip-hop. I now work for a nonprofit called Artist Corps New Orleans, placing fellows in elementary schools without music programs to teach music and carry out music-related community service.
