"I studied abroad in Shanghai, China, for a semester and the following summer taking Chinese. That helped me land an internship with a clean energy startup working with water recycling systems for hotels. There's a huge water crisis in China, and food prices are affected greatly by water demand. Now that I know more about environmental startups, I'm hoping to return home to work with solar energy companies."

How has your degree impacted your career?
I handle all major operations for our company, which manufactures structural steel and metal building systems. As a young woman in a conservative industry in India, I am often faced with tough choices. My gender and women's studies major, along with my research and my internship experiences, have sharpened my sensitivity toward the socio-political issues facing my staff and colleagues.
